Casa Mandala is situated in an olive finca on the edge of The Sierra Del Las Nieves, a  biosphere Natural Park  just outside  the small village of Alozaina In the south of Spain

Here the artisan John and artist and designer Akasha, are living the green lifestyles one is likely to find, of grid and without water. Reducing our standard of living in exchange for a beautiful life. We recycle, create and build, all with an artistic theme and in touch with the flow of spirit and nature.
We welcome you to come and share the experience of off-grid living, collecting water, building with natural materials and recycle what we find along the roads, all for a life without to many bills.
NO BANKS INVOLVED!!!!!

John & Akasha
John, born in Ireland in 1953, studied carpentry and specialized in antique restoration. He lived and worked in Ireland until 1995 when a car accident forced him to stop working. He took this as an opportunity to move to Wales to be with his children. In Wales, John lived in Hols-field where he started building on a plot without electricity. He then got the opportunity to buy land in southern Spain which was without electricity or water. To be in Spain was good for healing his body and brought the possibility of fulfilling his dream with natural building and sustainable living.

John came here in 2000 to build a sustainable  way of living with the land. At first he camped to connect with the land and the elements. He then chose a place for a more permanent dwelling. After 2 years, he had to admit to himself he had bitten off more than he could chew! So he decided to create a smaller place to stay in the summer months, as temperatures can reach 45 degrees C. He realized progress was not as quick as hoped, and the summer dwelling became a more permanent residence.

Building the ‘summer dwelling’ gave John lots of experience, and through this he learned what to do as well as what not to do. This has allowed Casa Mandala to take better form. In 2007, John met Akasha and with this beautiful collaboration of hearts, minds and hands, they have both been working together every day since.
They are now in a position to show and share their experience of how it is possible to live ‘off grid’, on dry land but more in tune with nature and without a 30  year bank loan!
We just LOVE it.
